The benefits of using a third-party laboratory to analyze and certify your products are:
- Transfer of certification liability to an ISO/IEC 17025:1999 accredited laboratory.
- Decreasing the manufacturers level of risk by third party certification.
- Qualified personnel and sophisticated laboratory instrumentation guarantiees precise results. Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AA) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS)
- Confirmation that the analysis of the product adhered to a strict Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) program
- Parts testing using our LIMS database insures accurate traceability
MACS Lab, Inc. is equipped with laboratory and field capable instrumentation so that RoHS/WEEE metal analysis can be undertaken either in our laboratory or at your site. Our team of specially trained and equipped field technicians can visit your site and test for RoHS/WEEE metals using non destructive x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF). Or you can send the samples to our laboratory for analysis.

After July 1, 2006 the European Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS) will restrict the use of lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI), Mercury (Hg), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE) in products that are shipped to the European Union (EU). Similar requirements are appearing in China, Taiwan, Japan, California and elsewhere throughout the world. For example, in California senate bill A.B. 302 requires the phasing out of penta and octa-PBDEs for all consumer products as of January 1, 2008. Japan has already started to voluntarily phase out the use of PBDEs.
Manufacturers are 100% accountable fo rensuring that their products are compliant. According to the UK government, "Failure to comply wih the requirements of the UK's RoHS regulations will result in the removal of manufacturers' products from the market place." The forthcoming supply chain turmoil will affect all hardware companies, even those that are exempt. Documentation needs to follow each and every part of the manufacturing process until each reaches the EU supporting compliance.
Since 1989, MACS Lab, Inc. has been an environmental and hazardous materials consulting firm and laboratory specializing in metal analysis, chemical analysis, microbiology, asbestos and environmental characterization services. Our business is dedicated to solving expectations.
